      • Vacuum forming machine

• Make 10 pieces of final design

Initial concept sketches for clear, laser-cut lamp. Test model using clear acrylic revealed that even low wattage light bulbs are too bright for a transparent acrylic shade.

Refined concepts with a polystyrene shade. Melting and draping the polystyrene produced inconsistent results; vacuum forming polystyrene over a ribbed acrylic structure resulted in disaster.

Manufacturing process to make ten lamps: vacuum forming machine used to create the bulb cover, drill used to bore holes in bulb covers to release heat, laser-cutting machine to cut acrylic and precisely cut slotted acrylic for quick assembly.
